Not a very pleasant morning today, first grey and rainy day we've had for a while. Also the day that Loz has decided to go for a net, good effort!

I'll start briefly with this game from 11 years ago, only mentioned because we have J Browes in our lineup! The only game he has ever played for the club and he got a golden duck. That's the full story.

Anyway moving on, and 10 years ago the Sunday 1sts were away at Newstead Abbey. Batting first and it is a traditional Sunday mixed-up batting order. We made 263/8 in our 40 overs, Johnno falling just 1 short of his half-century, before the real Browes top-scored with 64, supported by Coops with 58.
In the second innings Si opened the bowling with himself, and a total of 7 bowlers were used including 2 overs 0/23 from Locky. Newstead were bowled out for 198 and with so many bowlers used I was wondering why I didn't get a go but apparently I kept wicket even though Liam "Cymbals" Smith was in the side. Lots of curiosity in this scorecard!

It's the anniversary of a Coal Aston classic at home against Ashover. CACC batted first and Coops carried his bat for 130 as we reached a first innings total of 243/6.
Ashover never threatened to knock the runs off but their skipper "the Ashover Amla" Will "The Wall" Saxton was determined not to give us the full points. He successfully blocked and saw off all angles of attack until the 38th over when he was cleaned up by an absolute pie of a delivery from Liam. Everyone involved saw the funny side but the atmosphere quickly turned sour as Roger Bolstridge came into bat, and Dave Rodgers was brought on to bowl the final over of the match - Rodge Vs Rog.
Unfortunately, their Rog did not see the funny side and loudly stated "I'm not f***ing Sacko", signalling the end of any niceties and ensuring that the game ended in subdued awkwardness. However Sacko has remained a friend of the club and attempts to sign him have been as recent as this year. If you read this mate, hope you are keeping well!

5 years ago today we welcomed Blackwell to Stonelow. Batting first we got off to a dodgy start at 21/3 before a partnership of 159 between Dan and Crabbers helped us reach a first innings score of 254. Dan carried his bat for 174 including 18 fours and 8 sixes. Spare a thought for Matt Boreman who after sat watching that partnership in his pads, came in and was ran out for a duck, the big man at the other end may not have been moving too freely by that stage.
In the second innings a total of 10 bowlers were used as we were unable to bowl Blackwell out for full points, 8th change bowler Si returning the best figures with 2/11.

And to end on this weekend, there have been some great cricket captains over the years, Steve Waugh, Kapil Dev, Clive Lloyd, and of course when thinking of English captains Mike Brearley always springs to mind. However, regarding yesterday's mystery declaration, I'm not sure any of those have ever been faced with making the following decision by Locky, who duly responded to my request for an explanation....
Don't feel like I can add to that, so see you next weekend!
