Back to normal today with a look back at some past Sunday matches from recent years.
20 May 2007
We start with a look back to an early Sunday 2nd team game, masterminded by Beejal and Owen at the time, and away at Newstead Abbey. CACC fielded first and bowled Newstead out for 77 (although a separately posted result gives different scores I am going with this one as it has full stats on). Great spells for the then 15 year olds Jack with 4/25 off 7.3 overs, and Eliot with 3/8 off 5 overs.
In reply CACC made hard work of the chase, Father and son opening partnership of Eliot and Chris only made 4 between them, and wickets fell regularly. Experienced heads saw us through though, Beej top scoring with 20 and Owen finishing 10* to secure victory in this low scoring nail-biter.

From a low-scorer to a high-scorer with the Sunday 1sts away at Ashover, always an eventful trip. Batting first Rich Mintoft led the way with 128 including 18 fours and 2 sixes as CACC reached 219, usually a very good score in Sunday cricket at the time.
Ashover slipped to 28/3 early on in their innings and then 98/5 after a slight recovery. However this was then followed by a 107-run partnership and they eventually knocked off the runs 6 down in the final over of the match. Impressive figures for Eliot again with 5/16 off just 5 overs, got to ask questions of the skipper as to why he didn't get a second spell, especially when we had Loz bowling 2 overs 0/24 and Si bowling at the death!

10 years ago and we revisit a Saturday 1st team cup fixture at Stonelow against Treeton. Batting first Treeton made 213/5 from their 45 overs, no bowling figures of real note apart from Gramps' 0/52 from 6 overs to upset the neighbours.
A decent first innings total in usual circumstances but a brilliant unbeaten second-wicket partnership betwen Liam (100*) and Loz (96*) saw the total knocked off with ease with 4 overs to spare. Loz finishing the match with a big 6 which I happen to have a picture of where the fielder ended up fetching it from the far side of the football pitch!

This is actually a Saturday 2nd team league fixture that was played on a Sunday, I remember it well as it was one of only 3 games that we won in our relegation season! We were away at Collegiate and I did not realise it until today but now-CACC Jonny Walmsley was in the opposition line up!
CACC lost the toss and were asked to bat first, which seemed to be the right decision as Jonny dismissed Locky early doors and the rest fell for a total of just 111 all out. El top scoring with 31. In reply however we put in a great bowling and fielding performance, bowling Collegiate out for just 74. Eliot completed a fine all-round display with figures of 5/22, including cleaning up Jonny for just 3.
A non-cricket related story that I enjoy from this match, is that CACC folk-hero Steve Thompson decided to go and watch us bat from the rugby stand near the pitch. After a while the ladies hockey team began a full warm up on the rugby pitch in front of Steve, meaning that it looked like he was just sat there watching their warm up, possibly plotting their deaths! You had to be there really.

Back to actual Sunday league games and ending this week with two games against Frechville that they would prefer to forget.
Firstly in 2014, batting first CACC made 275/5 with Big Dave reaching 155 including 13 fours and 8 sixes. It was miserable day for Frecheville who were then bowled out for just 31. Johnno finishing with figures of 8/6, no mercy shown!

In the same fixture the following year CACC reached 237/6 batting first. 65 for Liam at number 3, and putting Dave down to number 7 only angered him, as he finished 64* at the end. Dave then went on to complete a proper all-rounder performance, bagging figures of 4-11 from just 3.3 overs, blowing Frecheville away for 74.

That'll do for this weekend I think, tune in next weekend for more memories.
