Some thrillers!

Happy Saturday everyone. Another glorious lockdown day which would have seen the 1sts travel to Worsbrough under normal circumstances, which I'm sure would have involved a couple of stories, but for now, here's some past memories.

8th May 2004

The earliest game of note from this weekend is a low scorer for the 2nds away at Tickhill. Batting first Tickhill were restricted to 97/9 from their 46 overs. I'm guessing it was a wet one with the 1sts called off at Stonelow on the same day. Some tight bowling figures all round but the stand out is 3 for 33 from Michael Watson who a few people may remember, think he had a couple of seasons with us.

In reply CACC predictably struggled as 41-1 quickly became 58-6, but a last wicket partnership from Roey and "The Undead" Tony Cookson saw us to victory, both scoring 21 not out.

6th May 2006

Two very enjoyable looking matches starting with the 1sts away at Bradfield, where batting first they looked to be plodding on to a lowish total at 133/5, but "Calypso" Pete Millington provided some late hitting with 23 off 14 balls, including  2 fours and 2 sixes, followed by what must be a record partnership between Si and Coley, see below if I have worked out how to insert pictures! In response to CACC's 1672/9, Bradfield were bowled out for 110, with Coley picking up 4/35.

Meanwhile at Stonelow, the 2nds were playing Dearne and going along nicely with Captain Kev Smith on 68, and Kev Hooper on 62. However, on getting out the skipper decides he doesn't want to watch anyone else bat and declares, with a score of 180/3. The decision turned out to be a good one, with Dearne bowled out for 112, three wickets for Barry Eke.

7th May 2011
A thriller for the 1sts at Shiregreen and it was all looking easy, fielding first and bowling Shiregreen out for 103. Impressive figures of 6-25 for Nick Horsfield. Not so smooth in the run chase though as 69/3 became 82/9 and victory seemed out of reach. A strong last wicket-partnership between Nick and Gramps saw us home however, with Nick completing a fine all-round performance, top scoring with 29 not out.

12th May 2018

Yet another thriller involving Shiregreen, this time at Stonelow and CACC batting first. We reached 193/6 in 50 overs with Reece panning 52* from 44 balls at the end, including 5 fours and 3 sixes. Shiregreen got off to a strong start but collapsed from 152/3 to 157/8, and when it became 168/9 CACC looked set for victory. Ben Vandrill doing the bulk of the damage with figures of 5/47. Another twist was still to come though, and a last wicket partnership of 25 saw Shiregreen manage to salvage a tie!

Phew that was a nervy one! Not a particularly funny week but some good games in there to look back on. Honorable mention to Jack Hall who scored 106 on this day 3 years ago away at Silkstone.

Tune in tomorrow for Sunday's edition.
