Afternoon all, not loads to go on this week so I found this one quite tricky to write, hopefully still some entertainment to be had!
3rd May 2003
The earliest fixture I can find from this weekend and unfortunately it's an old fashioned losing draw for the 2nd team away at Warmsworth. Bowling first CACC did okay to restrict Warmsworth to 168/8 in their 46 overs. The accomplished archer Dave "Buzzer" Ramsden was on target with 4/59.
In reply CACC never really got going and it took 45* from "Racist" Lew Ryan to make it a respectable 128/8. No runs from either of the Mintoff brothers, who made a rare appearance for the club, what ever happened to them?
29th April 2006
The first team win the toss and with Locky as captain, obviously we bat first against Collegiate. The skipper led from the front, opening up and getting 52. Useful contributions from Mark Johnson (who once got Viv Richards out), Hoss and Milly took CACC up to 184/8 from their 46 overs. In reply Collegiate could only manage 152/6 in their 46 overs, but impressively 100 of these were made by opening batsman Michael Simpson who would have reached the target in no time if not dismissed by Dale, caught out by Locky who I assume was fielding somewhere near Callywhite Lane. A young Billy Root also appeared in the Collegiate line up, but was dimissed early by Mark, who had cleverly distracted Billy by showing him a video of himself getting Viv Richards out.
30th April 2011
5 years later and another visit from Collegiate to play the first team. This time bowling first and early wickets mean that things were looking positive for CACC. In strides that same Michael Simpson at number 6. 8 fours and 14(!) sixes later and Collegiate reach 271 all out with Mike finishing 165 not out. Gramp's figures of 2-48 from 5 overs suggest that it was dangerous day for local residents.
In reply CACC made a respectable 224/7 from their 50 overs, with 73* for Hoss, and fifties for Rich Mintoft and Loz.
Despite numerous approaches to Collegiate, they have been unwilling to agree to a swap deal involving their Michael Simpson and ours.
4th May 2013
The second team were off on their travels to Mexborough. Batting first Mexborough reached 193 all out to set us a tricky chase. Veteran seamer Matty Roe the pick of the bowlers taking 4-42 from 13 overs.
In a very unCACC-like performance we made light work of the chase, knocking the runs off just 2 wickets down in 39 overs. Unfortunately the game ended in some controversy as Mexborough's captain ordered his bowler to bowl 2 wides in order to leave me stranded on 99 not out! Fairly unsporting of him I'm sure you'll agree. You will be pleased to know that I have since seen the bowler again when he picked me up recently in his taxi. I'm glad to report that he was still able to laugh about it and we agreed that it was probably a bit harsh. I feel that I have had the last laugh though, with a one star Uber rating!
I am not looking ahead to Play Cricket scorecards to come but I am assured that tomorrow involves a classic match, we will wait and see!
Have a good weekend everyone.
