Some big performances!

Okay no messing this week let's dive straight in......

26 May 2007

We start this weekend with a comprehensive victory for the 1sts at home to Rotherham Phoenix, featured mainly because I love a declaration. Winning the toss and batting first Captain Lockwood led the way with an unbeaten 137 at the top of the order. CACC reached a total of 228/2 including a partnership of 121 between Locky and Rich (51). Curiously the declaration came with just one over of the innings remaining, when you read this Lock perhaps you could text me the reason why you did it??

Anyway in reply all Phoenix needed was a flake to top off their day, as they were bowled out for 99 (contact me for bookings). The lower order destroyed by a devastating spell of 5-18 from 4.5 overs by the Chunky Lover.

A year later and a similar result for the 1sts, this time away at Treeton. Batting first and struggling early on we were 43/4 before a 106-run partnership between Nick and Grant (runs equally shared there I'm sure) steadied the ship. A 103-run partnership then followed between Nick and Milly, and Nick was eventually dismissed for 123 including 17 fours and 3 sixes, as CACC reached a strong first innings score of 263.

Treeton struggled against this daunting total and Chunks was in the wickets again! After Nick and Jimbo toiled for not much reward Matty J cleaned up with figures of 6/18 from 7.2 overs. Two great performances to kick off with.

22 May 2010

Another fine performance this time by the 3rds at Carr Lane against Whittington Wanderers. We batted first and a massive opening stand of 170 between Simmo (69) and Barry Eke (87) ensured that CACC were on to a big first innings total. Some late innings hitting from Shilash and Grant "1sts to 3rds in two years" Woolley took the total to 243/4.

Whittington put in a spirited effort in the run chase, but Captain Woody mixed up his bowling options to get the win. 7 bowlers were used in total including a short-lived first change spell for Finn returning figures of 0/12 from 1 over (thanks for coming mate) and 2 overs 0/17 for poor old Barry, who presumably was on oxygen at this stage. In the end though Grant blew away the lower order with figures of 5/45, including the final wicket of Will Lowe to seal the victory.

21 May 2016

Rain is not always a bad thing for cricketers, as this day proved. At Stonelow the 1sts batted first and were skittled for 87 by Wath. Eliot's 38 the only score of note. Shahrukh did get a wicket with his first ball but Wath were still big favorites as the rain came down to abandon the match with the score  13/1, meaning the points were shared.

Meanwhile at Treeton the 2nd team were also batting first and managed to beat the first team's score, bowled out for 88. In the second innings it was real touch and go stuff, the game could have gone either way as the rain came down, with Treeton on 50/0 and just with just 54 overs left to try and knock the runs off - we'll never know what would have happened!

23 May 2017

Just a quick mention for this Tuesday night match, second round of the T20 cup where we made the long trip to Greenmoor. The game was rearranged as we turned up on a previous night in dodgy conditions and it had to be cancelled, during which Roey offered the whole of Greenmoor out for a scrap, happy birthday Matthew.

Anyway CACC cruised through to the next round with ease, batting first we reached 121/6 off a reduced 16 overs. Skipper Dan leading the way with 37 including 5 fours and a six. Greenmoor couldn't get going in reply and wickets were shared out as they were bowled out for 76, Vanders returning 3/16 and the cup journey had begun!

25 May 2019

I had to end with this game in Graves Park for the 1sts against Norton Woodseats. CACC won the toss, batted first and amassed a huge first innings total of 327/6. Loz Browes, returning to CACC after a failed mercenary mission to Tickhill, was top of the order and on top of his game with an innings of 191 from 151 balls including 25 fours and 9 sixes. Loz batted for almost the full innings and was supported well throughout, including a century opening stand with Jack Hall.

Clearly this score was too much for Woodseats, and Gramps took 5/62 as they were dismissed for 204, not a bad score in usual circusmtances! Well batted and welcome back Loz!

That's all for now, have a good Saturday!
