Starting way back in 2004 when the 1sts won the toss at Stonelow and elected to bat first against Rockingham. There was a handful of contributions throughout the order as CACC struggled to 150 all out, Locky top scoring with 39. Not a great score but it turned out to be enough on this occasion, as Rockingham were bowled out for 121 in reply. Johnno clearly fired up by being made to bowl first change ended with figures of 6/25, and getting the winning run out. A couple of catches and a stumping for the Dronfield Town FC manager Chris Millington to dismiss the top 3.

An absolute thriller at Woodseats for the 3rd team against Sheffield Zingari. CACC won the toss and elected to bat, and after a couple of early wickets there were good contributions all the way down as we reached an impressive first innings total of 241/5. Paul Robinson (I don't know which one) top scoring with 64, and Beejal not far behind with 61*.
Unfortunately CACC seemed to suffer from a lack of bowling options other than Woody and Knowlsey who took 3 wickets each. Zingari's number 4 stood strong and finished 82* as they knocked off the winning runs off the last ball of the match, and 9 wickets down with their number 11 managing to finish 5* to get the win. If anyone has any memories of the final moments of the match I would be keen to hear them!

Couple of games here starting with the 1sts at home to Whitley Hall. Asked to bat first Locky led the way with 58 as CACC scraped to 176/9 from their 46 overs, some important contributions at the end from Coley, Jase and Jimbo to help boost the total. In reply Johnno opened the bowling this time and took 5/36 as part of CACC's formidable attack at that time, which also included Nick and Jimbo, with Coley as the spin option. Whitley could only manage 113 in reply.

Meanwhile the 2nds were away at Frechville in another close run match. Batting first CACC made it to 198/6 with contributions all the way down but 55 from Phil "The Bastard" Cookson being the stand out. In reply Frechville were always in with a shout and were 136/1 at one point. A flurry of middle order wickets and a couple of crucial run outs meant that despite going down to the last over, Frechville eventually fell 5 runs short of victory, I managed to pick up 4/48.

Now Parkhead is a small ground, but you don't see many T20 scores like this one. A bit of a mismatch in the T20 cup for the thirds who faced Div 1 Parkhead. Just take this in for a moment.....CACC won the toss and elected to field first.......Parkhead reached 271/3 in their 20 overs and obviously there are some stunning bowling figures in there but for me, Simmo's spell of 1 over 0/29 is comedy gold.
In reply an opening partnership of 73 between Ryan and Finn "Boom Boom" Macnamara restored a bit of pride, but there was not much else to follow. Grant went into automatic pilot to finish 1* to ensure that CACC weren't bowled out and could take the losing draw points, but as this was a cup game there were none available and we were just knocked out.

The first team away at Kexborough and always a stand out scorecard for me because of two great individual performances. Kexborough stuck us in and although Rich got cleaned up first ball, they ended up regretting it as we ended up with 293/7. The main contribution by far was from Nick who finished with 148* including 19 fours and 3 sixes. In reply Kexborough got off to a decent start and were up to 147/2 at one point, before a spell of 8/17 from 7.2 overs by Gramps put a quick end to that chase!

A big first innings batting performance for the 1sts at home to Barnsley. CACC won the toss and after a couple of early wickets a partnership of 119 between Locky and Parky set the platform for a total score of 318/8 from our 50 overs. Chris top scored with 71 but there was also some impressive late hitting from Dan with 46 from 34 balls, and Huss with 41 off just 19 balls, the pair of them finding some useful form in time for the T20 finals day the next day.
Barnsley put in a good effort in the second innings, but CACC's total was too much and they eventually feel short on 264/7, with the wickets shared around. A good 5-point win for the 1sts and some confidence to take into the big day tomorrow.

Cricketing Memories Part 2 - Dave Furniss
In what I would like to make make a regular feature for as long as possible, we have another interview this week. And its another "ramblings of an old man" today from Dave Furniss. Dave joined to club in 2011 and has played 114 games for CACC before claiming to have retired in 2019, we will see if that is true.
Earliest Cricket memory
This was my first game in an adult team. I was taken to games by my father (sorry John, but we had a car) and scored for Sheffield Teachers, yes the same club Brett, Jason, Roey etc. played for but obviously years earlier, possibly before they were born! I used to take my kit just in case they were short and on this occasion they were. I remember it was at Teacher's home ground at Maud Maxfield's School on Ringinglow Road, freezing cold day in April! Someone obviously did not fancy playing so I played, at the age of 14. Who we were playing and what the scores were etc. I cannot remember but I was put in at number 4 and the opposition crowded round the bat but after I had reached 20 they were much further spread. I went on to get 25. The captain was Terry Bishop and he was linked to Sheffield boys and due to my innings I was drafted into the Sheffield Boys Team. First game was at Bramall Lane. In the same team behind the stumps was Phil Mintoft, father of Richard and Simon!
Favourite Ground
Not easy, far easier to name the grounds I did not like e.g. (censored by CT so as not to cause any grief). I think it has to be Abbeydale; played there for 10 years, quality wicket, good outfield, nice bar and changing rooms with balcony, but teas not so good. I must say Coal Aston comes close. From a spectators point of view Colleen would say Bradfield.
Best Team Mate
Again far easier to say who was a dick, and there have been a few over the years, but I will leave that blank. I have played with some quality players, some great on the field but complete pillocks off it and visa versa. White line fever. I think as a young lad Roy Bunting from Teachers was a great influence and also later Jack Bethal at Collegiate.
Best Opponent
It has to be teams in the Yorkshire League. Most of them had county/test players and just the intensity they played at was amazing to watch. Fortunately I was on the same side as Ian Bishop and Kenny Benjamin when they played for Collegiate, I did face them in the nets and never saw a ball just heard it fizz past, at probably three quarter pace!
Best Cricket Memory
Non playing memory- Being at the 20-20 finals last year. Some great cricket, excellent crowd antics together with Flintoff and Bumble singing. Playing - Your first hundred has to be up there but I must admit I cannot remember much about mine other than it was at International Harvesters in Doncaster on a very hot day. Also I think winning the SY cup playing for Oakes against Elsecar, funny, John also picked beating Elsecar as a highlight.
Worst Cricket Memory
No problem with this one, still shiver now thinking about it - I drove with Colleen, James and Matt to Scarborough in the pouring rain and sleeting snow, with all four of us, on and off chuntering about - why are we doing this , it is a complete waste of time, etc, etc. We get to Scarborough the covers are on and the ground is covered in wet sleety snow. I then hang around for hours, Colleen and the boys have gone off into Scarborough to play on the slot machines and find a nice warm cafe to have fish and chip. After about two hours, as it does in Scarborough the sun comes out, dries the ground and we are going to play. We lose the toss and are put in, I open the batting and yes you guessed it I am out first ball!!!! The day went down hill from there.
Funniest Memory
I have two - the first I was reminded about from Chris’s blog regarding the game at Treeton where Rich and myself had an opening partnership of 160. The captain of the Treeton side was Mark Gee, I have played against Mark for years and he obviously knows me. I had hit one six early on in my innings and then later I hit another over square leg, the next ball I hit straight over the bowlers head onto the football pitch for my third six. I then heard one of the young Treeton lads say to Mark Gee “ I thought you said this old git would not get it of the square” - priceless!
The second was at Ashford in the Water playing for the friendly side, Sheffield Casuals. They were a side with no home ground just played Sunday friendlies. Peter Gilder, yes the car man, got eleven players together every Sunday. Players like Joe Root, Michael Vaughan, Jeff Miller with Ted Hemsley the captain. Needless to say we did not lose many games.
I was batting and a new bowler came on and our scorer shouted “bowlers name?” The reply came back A Muppet - yes that is his name Andrew Muppet. He then proceeded to bowl a series of long hops and pies which were dispatched to all parts. Not difficult, for those who do not know Ashford, it makes Park Head look like the oval.
In their innings Mr Muppet came into bat at five and Ted put on one of the players sons who was about 13, the first ball was wide down leg the second was a full toss which A Muppet missed and the third bounced twice and bowled him! He stormed back to pavilion but half way there took of his helmet and threw it to the ground, he then gave it an all mighty kick over the boundary which must have hurt because he limped the last few yards off the pitch. We next see him with his foot in a bowl of iced water with a face like thunder. He certainly lived up to his name!!

A quieter Sunday
Not too many games to go at today with quite a few rain offs on this day over the years, so a slightly shorter edition than has been the norm of late, welcome news to some I'm sure!

A couple of games to kick us off, starting with the Sunday 1sts away at Cutthorpe. The home side won the toss and batted first and I have memories of fielders lined up next to the car park as Asadullah Butt was reverse sweeping it over their heads for a few sixes. Cutthorpe made a decent first innings score of 217/9 from their 40 overs. CACC got off to a poor start to the run chase and were therefore always behind the rate. Despite a half-century from the skipper Rich coming in at number 7, we ended up all out for 188 trying to catch up at the end.

Meanwhile the Sunday 2nds fared better at home to Clipstone. Bowling first we managed to bowl them out for just 122, unfortunately the fall of wickets isn't on there but judging by the late flurry of ducks, I reckon we might be looking at another batting collapse. Wickets were shared around but Clark's 4/11 are the standout figures. We took our time with the run chase, eventually knocking them off in 34 overs with Barry Eke guiding us through, finishing with 66*.

Always an entertaining trip away to Blackwell on Sunday, a ground that holds the world record 9th wicket stand of 283, in a game between Derbyshire and Warwickshire in 1910. On this day CACC batted first and a 65-run opening stand between Dan and Si set us up for a decent first innings total of 184 with decent contributions all the way down.
We would need as many runs as we could get as it appears that we were short on bowling with Locky the first choice option. Luckily we were able to pick up regular wickets and Blackwell ended up bowled out for 109, giving CACC a comfortable 75 run victory.

A high scorer for the Sunday 1sts at home to Eastwood. CACC won the toss, batted first and a quick 50 from Coops took us to 79/2 with a good platform to build on. This was then followed by a 221-run unbeaten partnership between Nick Tye and Dave Rodgers to take us up to 300/2 at the end of the 40 overs. Dave finished with 131* off just 77 balls, including 18 fours and 5 sixes, Nick ending up 104* off 100 balls, with 12 fours and 1 six.
Eastwood were up for making a good fist of the run chase, and there are some good strike rates on their batting card but they were ultimately unable to keep up with the required rate, falling short at 249/7. Mahesh picking up 3 wickets in his second spell after taking some early punishment opening up.

Another honourable mention to finish in a rained off game from 10 years ago, when Eliot opened the batting and finished with 113 at home to Cuckney in a total of 222/5. Unfortunately the game was abandoned in just the 2nd over of the 2nd innings so CACC were unable to finish the job.

Collapsing all around!
I hope you all enjoyed the new interview feature with John on Tuesday, hoping to make it a regular addition but we will see how it pans out. In the meantime, back to the usual format!

We will start with this game way back for the 2nds, as I like looking at the old matches. We were at home to Hallam's 2nds and asked to bat first. After a shaky start a good partnership between Roey and Adam Chambers took the score up to 136/3, Roey top scoring with 61. This was followed by a traditional Coal Aston collapse, including a retirement from Kev Smith. I don't think this was the game in which he was stretchered off on a door, but may be mistaken. Hilly was left 12* as the rest of us fell and were bowled out for 169.
Hallam made light work of the run chase and knocked them off just 3 wickets down. I stuck in a spell of 3 overs 0/27 to go with my first innings duck and complete a proper all-rounder's performance.

Bad day for the thirds who were away at Whittington Wanderers and on the wrong end of a 220 opening run partnership. 8 bowlers were tried but WW ended up with a first innings score of 254/3. Quick wickets saw CACC 1/2 and then 25/4 in the second innings, but we were not about to give the full points away, as we batted out our 46 overs 95/7, Roey finishing 40* to take the losing draw points.

A good performance for the 2nds at home to Rotheram Phoenix, although it was looking unlikely at first as Phoenix batted first and reached 75/0 before Loz came on and knocked over the top 4 batsman. This triggered a CACC-like collapse as Phoenix were bowled out for 129. We had Grant the ideal man for a low run chase in our line up, who opened up and finished 36* to guide us through to a 4 wicket victory with 10 overs to spare.

Second team away at Rotherham Town and a bad choice from their skipper to stick us in. Millman and I got us off to a good start with an 84-run opening partnership, after which all the middle order contributed, apart from Sweety who got a straight one and needs to stop winning at poker every week. We ended with a decent first innings score of 225/9.
Rotherham made a good fist of the chase and were certainly doing okay with the run rate, but Johnno spearheaded the attack and finished with figures of 5/42 as we took the last 5 wickets for just 2 runs (!!!), and bowled Rotherham out for 177.

A real game of two halves for the 2nd team away at the D&I Home Improvements Ground against Worsbrough Bridge. CACC won the toss, and after electing to field things were looking great as Worsbrough were reduced to 32/7, more wickets for Johnno with figures of 6/29. This was followed by a battling partnership of 89 as Worsbrough managed to sneak up to 133 all out.
CACC would still have been confident of chasing that down at tea, and looked to be getting off to a solid start with Simmo and Brett at the top of the order. Disaster struck though and the following collapse saw CACC fall to 45/9 with plenty of ducks on display. I can't imagine Captain Johnno was the happiest man in the dressing room after, as despite his 32 at number 10, CACC were bowled out for 84, nearly 50 runs short of victory.

Just to finish today with an honourable mention for Jack Blakeley who this time last year picked up figures of 5/7 from just 4 overs, as Thorncliffe collapsed from 117/2 to 153 all out. The game was ultimately called off so we'll never know if we could have knocked them off, but I clearly remember Roey being convinced that weren't going to win because Chips was batting so slowly!

Cricketing Memories Part 1 - John Lawrence.
I've decided it may be an idea to include some members individual memories at the end of each weekend blog. Then upon sending some questions to our esteemed Treasurer and long serving member of the club and committee, John has come back with such entertaining and comprehensive answers that I thought it was deserving of a midweek special release. So here we have it, the first in the series of cricketing memories, from John Lawrence, otherwise known as "The ramblings of an old man after 10 weeks of lockdown."
Earliest Cricketing Memory
Being towed about by my old dad on public transport all over Sheffield. He was Captain of English steel’s second team. He couldn’t drive and anyway, not many working class families could afford cars back then so we went everywhere by bus/tram. I reckon by age 10 I could find my way by bus to just about any cricket ground between Roth Phoenix and Hallam.
Fave Ground.
Got to be the old English Steel ( latterly BSC River Don) on Bellhouse Road/Sicey Avenue. Not everyone’s cup of tea but that’s where I learned to play properly after leaving school. Sadly no longer used for cricket.
Best Teammate.
Very difficult to Answer. In my younger days I’ve played with opening batsmen who would make Graaant look like Ben Stokes on Heat and opening bowlers who’d make Mark Johnson look like a batsman’s best friend and respected them all for their approach to the game. In my resurrected career at Coal Aston and bearing in mind the level I’ve played at while here I’ve always liked the way that the immortal Andy Wood played the game.
Best Opponent.
Anyone we’ve just beaten. I can be quite magnanimous in victory.
Best Cricketing Memory
Getting Sir Gary Sobers autograph at Parkhead when I was about 9 years old. Parkhead used to hold a cricket festival week. I think the Windies were playing Yorkshire at the Lane. Best playing memory would be beating Elsecar back in the late 60’s when they were the top team in the old South Riding Council. Just beginning to find my feet in our first team. A quick 20 odd from down the order and 5 dismissals behind the stumps.
Worst Cricketing Memory
In your brilliant series of ‘ looking back ‘ you reported a couple of Sundays ago about a Sunday match away at Cuckney on 29th May 2011. Etched in my memory that game ! Cuckney 325 – 0. Very spirited reply from CACC you said at 218-1. El Tye 127*(possibly his first ton, well done El)
543 runs from 80 overs and only 1 of the openers dismissed. Guess who. ME ! I damaged a finger early on ( broken I think). Every step I took chasing round their pitch was agony. Did a lot of chasing too! Didn’t make a song and dance about the Throbbing finger so when I was offered to open I accepted. Never turn down the chance to open the batting was my motto so out I went. i’ve just worked out that I was 63 years old at the time and you’d think I would have known better. It was agony and I think I got a duck. Changing gear on the way back was a bit painful but ice and 4 pints in The Pond helped. Was up all night peeing but hey-ho.
Funniest moment
At one match I remember from back in the day our opening batsman, married at the time, turned up with a girlfriend. We must have lost the toss because we batted first and said opening batsmen went in. Only been playing a couple of overs when his wife turns up. Girlfriend saw wife and ran into ladies toilet in the clubhouse. Unfortunately for girlfriend she’d been spotted by wife who followed her into toilet. Absolute bedlam for a few minutes and then wife comes out and marches up to the boundary and shouts at top of voice to her husband ‘YOU, OFF’. Needless to say our opener was well aware what was happening and despite both umpires suggesting he leave the field he got his head down and batted through our 46 overs for 10 runs. He was in line to win divisional batting prize but that knock ruined his average. When his opening partner was out he asked him to smuggle his girlfriend away which he did. He apologised to all the batsmen who came in but said there was no way was he getting out. Amazingly we went on to win the game. Doesn’t look as funny in black and white but believe me it was hilarious on the day.

Earliest Cricketing Memory
Being towed about by my old dad on public transport all over Sheffield. He was Captain of English steel’s second team. He couldn’t drive and anyway, not many working class families could afford cars back then so we went everywhere by bus/tram. I reckon by age 10 I could find my way by bus to just about any cricket ground between Roth Phoenix and Hallam.
Fave Ground.
Got to be the old English Steel ( latterly BSC River Don) on Bellhouse Road/Sicey Avenue. Not everyone’s cup of tea but that’s where I learned to play properly after leaving school. Sadly no longer used for cricket.
Best Teammate.
Very difficult to Answer. In my younger days I’ve played with opening batsmen who would make Graaant look like Ben Stokes on Heat and opening bowlers who’d make Mark Johnson look like a batsman’s best friend and respected them all for their approach to the game. In my resurrected career at Coal Aston and bearing in mind the level I’ve played at while here I’ve always liked the way that the immortal Andy Wood played the game.
Best Opponent.
Anyone we’ve just beaten. I can be quite magnanimous in victory.
Best Cricketing Memory
Getting Sir Gary Sobers autograph at Parkhead when I was about 9 years old. Parkhead used to hold a cricket festival week. I think the Windies were playing Yorkshire at the Lane. Best playing memory would be beating Elsecar back in the late 60’s when they were the top team in the old South Riding Council. Just beginning to find my feet in our first team. A quick 20 odd from down the order and 5 dismissals behind the stumps.
Worst Cricketing Memory
In your brilliant series of ‘ looking back ‘ you reported a couple of Sundays ago about a Sunday match away at Cuckney on 29th May 2011. Etched in my memory that game ! Cuckney 325 – 0. Very spirited reply from CACC you said at 218-1. El Tye 127*(possibly his first ton, well done El)
543 runs from 80 overs and only 1 of the openers dismissed. Guess who. ME ! I damaged a finger early on ( broken I think). Every step I took chasing round their pitch was agony. Did a lot of chasing too! Didn’t make a song and dance about the Throbbing finger so when I was offered to open I accepted. Never turn down the chance to open the batting was my motto so out I went. i’ve just worked out that I was 63 years old at the time and you’d think I would have known better. It was agony and I think I got a duck. Changing gear on the way back was a bit painful but ice and 4 pints in The Pond helped. Was up all night peeing but hey-ho.
Funniest moment
At one match I remember from back in the day our opening batsman, married at the time, turned up with a girlfriend. We must have lost the toss because we batted first and said opening batsmen went in. Only been playing a couple of overs when his wife turns up. A Busy Day
There's all sorts going on in today's scorecards so rather than missing any highlights out, I've gone for slightly shorter summaries instead. As Nick Tye might say....apologies for the length.

We start with the Sunday 1sts at home to Spital, CACC winning the toss and choosing to field first. Spital never really got going and wickets fell regularly as they were bowled out for 160. "Power Dwarf" Al Hughes the pick of the bowlers picking up 5/15 from 9 overs, and he doesn't even bowl anymore after getting yips in an indoor game! In an effort to give us a decent score to chase, Rich turned to brother Si who delivered with 0/33 from 3.4 overs.
CACC made light work of the run chase with Milly opening up and finishing with 89, looks as though he may have been denied the chance of a ton by Alfie who came in and finished 21* to finish a fine all-round performance.

At the same time the Sunday 2nds were away at Clipstone and batting first. Moxon opened the batting for some reason, perhaps signalling a light batting line-up as CACC struggled to 116/7 from 40 overs, Craig Forster top scoring with 26.
Rumour has it that Andy Wood has sold his soul to devil in return for immortal wicket-taking abilities and it certainly came true on this day. At one stage Clipstone were reduced to 19/8 until their number 9 came in and scored 31. They ended up 62 all out with Woody finishing with 7/20 from 10 overs.

A tough day batting first for the Sunday 1sts at home to Mansfield Hosiery Mills. A string of single figure scores saw CACC reduced to 53/7, before the skipper Rich tried to boost the total but was ran out with 21 to his name. A last wicket stand between "The Bear" Andy Hill and Jack took us to a not-even-respectable score of 113/9 from 40 overs. Unsurprisingly this was not enough and MHM knocked them off just 2 wickets down, Coops putting in a decent spell to pick up both wickets.

Just including this Sunday 1sts game at home to Sherwood to highlight Milly throwing away another chance at a century, as he was dismissed 95 during CACC's first innings of 217/4. In the second innings 8 bowlers were tried but we were unable to bowl Sherwood out for full points, as they finished 178/6.

A great effort from CACC on this day to put out 3 teams, with the Saturday 1st team having a cup game, unfortunately though, the results were not so positive.
The cup match was away at Norton Oakes and on this occasion Alfie was against us, and carried his bat for 105* as Oakes reached a challenging score of 261/6 from their 45 overs. CACC put in a spirited run chase but ended 29 runs short of victory with most batsmen getting in and making starts, but couldn't match Alfie's match-winning knock.

Meanwhile the Sunday 1st's were away at Shirebrook's "Model Village" and things were looking positive for CACC who having lost the toss, managed to bowl Shirebrook out for just 104. Woody again doing some early damage and Ed Butterfield's 3/24 the stand out figures. We didn't put in such a good show with the bat though, and Cookie was left stranded not out as we were bowled out for just 72.

With 3 teams out on Sunday, the Sunday 2nd team were always likely to struggle at Stonelow against the West Indian Cavaliers, and fate was against them as they lost the toss and were asked to field first. WIC racked up 319/7 from their 40 overs, Barry Eke picking up 5 wickets, 4 of which were stumpings from Nick Tye so it's safe to say that the West Indians were treating Barry with a very cavalier attitude indeed. Some interesting bowling figures in there but Liam Smith's 2 overs 0/38 a real stand-out for me.
To their credit, CACC did not throw their wickets away in the second innings, finishing 185/3 in 40 overs with half centuries for Nick and Liam, who just about managed to make it back into credit for the match!

Another first team cup game this time away at Darfield. The home side batted first and after a good start were reduced to 136/6 with a shaky middle order performance, but then recovered again to finish on 208. Liam leading the way with figures of 4/28. CACC made a good effort of the run chase and at 178/5 were looking good for the win, Loz making 110. Unfortunately the last 5 wickets then fell for 25 runs and we finished 6 runs short of victory, Jase left 18* with a couple of run outs highlighting the nerves on route to the finish line.

Meanwhile the Sunday 2nds played Nomads and batting first we raced to an intimidating first innings total of 118/5 from 40 overs, Grant batting for the majority and ending 40 not out. With Woody in the side though this was plenty as his remarkable opening spell of 10 overs 5/6 helped bowl Nomads out for just 88.

I need to start off this week with a match that I missed out last week, as it was a midweek game it slipped through the net......

Of course it's the quarter-final of the T20 cup at home to Thorncliffe, who won the toss and chose to bat first. CACC did well to keep them down to less than a run a ball, finishing 118/8 with some tight bowling led by skipper Dan who went for less than 3 per over in his spell.
In reply CACC got off to a shaky start, and as 25/4 became 56/5, we were up against it with Thorncliffe looking like favorites to make it through to finals day. But a heroic partnership of 65 between Locky and Nick Tye meant that we made it home with just two balls to spare, Locky finishing 64* off 42 balls, and CACC were through to finals day again! Apologies for the bad language in the below image.

Back onto Saturday games and we'll start at Maltby with the 2nd team. Maltby batted first and got off to a half-decent start but wickets fell regularly and their number 3 finished on 49* from 46 overs as they made it to 151 after a frustrating last wicket partnership of 37. Ady Wileman the pick of the bowlers with 3/7 from 4 overs.
CACC struggled in reply and collapsed to 66/6, and at 117/8 (effectively 9-down with Shilash retiring hurt), we needed a similar last wicket stand to Maltby to have a chance of winning. Stepping up to that task was Roey and Noodles who matched the last-wicket stand of 37 to see CACC home in the penultimate over. Roey finishing with 31* to guide us to victory.

10 years ago and one of my most fondly remembered matches, for obvious reasons. We batted first at Stonelow against Rotherham Phoenix and were not looking in a strong position at 90/6, including a few ducks in a row from the middle order. This was then followed by an unbeaten partnership of 128 between myself and Eliot, with me making my first century as we managed to reach 216/6.
In the second innings Phoenix were never out of it and after Gramps had finished his spell with figures of 6/54, the game was in the balance. They still needed 18 to win as the 9th wicket fell, their number 11 was actually a genuine batsman with an injury so it could it could have gone either way still. The last wicket fell with 4 balls of the match left and Phoenix fell 7 runs short of victory. Appropriately Eliot picked up the last wicket, caught by me at cover!

Whilst we are on the subject of partnerships, here is a great one for the 2nds at Stonelow against Rockingham. CACC batted first and a solid base was set at 75/2, which set up a partnership of 197 between Si and Brett. Si finished with 152 including 19 fours and 3 sixes (which was the highest individual Saturday score until Loz's 190 last season), and Brett with 120 including 14 fours and 5 sixes, a joy to watch!
Unfortunately we were unable to bowl Rockingham out to secure full points but they never threatened to win, finishing 117/9 from 46 overs as we won by 145 runs.

I had to finish with this remarkable looking scorecard for the second team away at Penistone. With the 3 other teams rained off, Penistone won the toss and stuck us in on a tricky day for the batsmen. Despite a duck for me the rest of the top order got in a made it to double figures, but when Hex was dismissed there followed a sequence of 7 ducks in a row! Opener Dave Furniss was left stranded on 23* as we were bowled out for just 61.
Conditions obviously improved massively after tea as Penistone knocked the runs off with no problem at all, for a ten wicket victory. Not a great day for the 2nds, and a good choice by the Penistone skipper not to call it off!
